Hello to all and thank you for visiting the CCSC website and, most specifically, my bio! I hope that my story and the stories of my community are inspiring to you.
I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA and went to college at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN. I’m a very proud of my Louisiana heritage and look my Southern roots, but I knew that God was calling me to serve people in a different arena, at least at this point in my life. I’m pretty accustomed to moving around and living in different places frequently (Memphis, Cape Town, South Africa, and Washington, DC, and back to Baton Rouge, all within a four year period) so I knew Buffalo would be another exciting move.
The idea of doing a year of service was first planted in my head my freshman year of college. Once senior year rolled around, I discovered that that small seed had grown into a blossoming flower and I knew that it was something I was truly being called to do. I looked into several programs, all really great and exciting in their own merit, but something about CCSC really stood out to me. Whether is was because it was located in a part of the country I had never seen before or that the service options were more diverse than most programs or that it was small and located in a central area, rather than all over the country, I don’t know. All of these facts played some role in my choosing to become a CCSC volunteer.
So far, all of these reasons and more have been confirmed in my few weeks. I am working at Neighborhood Legal Services on the Homeless Task Force and LOVING every minute of it. I feel that I am learning a lot and that I am able to use my talents and interests to help my clients. It can get pretty difficult and stressful, but the people I work with in the office and my community at home are a wonderful support system and I know that if I have a problem they are right there to help me
