My name is Brittíni A. Gray, I also go by Bree. At the age of 18, I rededicated my life to Christ. Since then, I have been active in ministry. While at City of Refuge I participated in youth and outreach ministries and aspiring ministers training. Aside from City of Refuge, I participated in countless volunteer and evangelism efforts such as mission trips abroad and domestically. I was also involved in a campus ministry in school where I served on the leadership team and co-found and taught a small group Bible study, Collegiate Black Christians. Serving has always been an integral part of who I am.
I graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with my bachelors in Sociology, with a concentration in Urban and Community Development and Business. In this major, I began to understand the importance of doing more than just servicing people. I began to understand better the need for justice and equality in society. This year of service is giving me a chance to do just that, fight for justice.
I am placed at VOICE-Buffalo as a community organizer. As a faith-based organization we seek to bring about justice to this community not through speaking for other people but giving them the opportunities to speak their own VOICE! The power of change and a better future lies in the voices of the people and in working together to bring about that change!
As a Christian I am called to ministry which is serving and seeking justice. I hope to continue ministry throughout my life, by reaching youth through creative programming, motivational speaking, and using poetry and spoken word as an outreach tool. I also hope to reach young women and teenagers who have had similar life experiences as me to find God, because I understand the importance of having a relationship with God to overcome!
