What’s up to everyone looking at this!!!! My name is Julie Phelan and I come to this city of Buffalo from the greatest place in the world, Drexel Hill PA; which is a suburb of the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. We have sports teams of the highest caliber, mouth-watering cheesesteaks, awesome soft pretzels, and delicious rolls! So, you are most likely thinking why would I want to leave all that to head up to Western New York? Frankly, I am still trying to figure that out; what I have figured out is that I am meant to be here, I have met some of the most inspiring people while in Buffalo. I have only been here for about two months, but I have already learned so much about others as well as myself.
I graduated from Pennsylvania State University and since my sophomore year I knew I wanted to do a year of service at some point in my life. I received catalog after catalog and spent hours and hours on different organizations websites, but when I arrived at the CCSC website, I knew. I knew that this was the place for me; I knew that it was a place that was not just going to be me dedicating a year of my life to service, but a place that I could call home. The CCSC is a special organization and after the first weekend I was here I knew it was a heart-match. I am so blessed to have such a supportive, loving family at home and now I have many supportive people in Buffalo and within the CCSC organization.
Joining the CCSC is committing to more than just a year of service, joining the CCSC is opening hearts and minds, and changing the lives of others and yourself. If I didn’t look at other organizations I would have never known how much I was drawn back to the CCSC website and program. I knew in my heart that it was the place for me, and I could not have made a better decision. I will leave you with a quote from my favorite movie, The Sandlot, “follow your heart kid and you’ll never go wrong.”
