Spirituality
Spirituality is an awareness of God both in the world and beyond it. Similarly, spiritual persons recognize their empowerment by the indwelling Spirit, as well as their perpetual powerlessness without God's grace. True spirituality draws us out of isolation into right relationship with others and with the Other. Only when we realize God's love for us are we genuinely able to turn to others with love. The CCSC comes from the Catholic Christian tradition, which teaches us to follow Jesus in a reflective life of service to others, especially the poor and oppressed.
While each person's faith is personal, it cannot stay private. A CCSC volunteer intentionally works to integrate spirituality and daily life.
When committing to a year in the CCSC, volunteers do their best to stay open to the following expectations:
- To spend some time each day in personal reflection or prayer, in order to grow in their relationship with God and others.
- To participate in weekly community spirituality nights of prayer and reflection, so that they may share their spiritual insights and experiences, and value those of others.
- To participate fully in the retreats provided by CCSC, by being present and punctual for all functions. During retreats, they will abstain from alcohol in order to be fully present to the community of their fellow volunteers.
